As the days lengthen, Cranmer's trees are garlanded with blossom, the fields alive with new growth.
Led by Atul Vohora, Spring Landscape Painting is part of the Four Seasons series of workshops.
Each workshop is complete in itself. Artists may attend one season or return throughout the year to develop a sustained body of work.

Location
Cranmer Studio is set in the North Norfolk countryside, surrounded by arable land and woods. We have a rich variety of landscapes to paint: a ruined abbey, wild dunes, Scots pine or oak forests, salt marshes, beaches and the tall expansive skies.
Cranmer has a large studio to develop work and to shelter if the weather turns. We are approximately three hours by car from London. We are happy to provide transport to and from King’s Lynn train station.

Your tutor - Atul Vohora
Born in East Africa, Atul Vohora currently lives and works in London. His paintings are layered, braiding together strands of memory, culture and lived experience into a body of work that has a powerful immediacy. Using a rich language of pattern, imagery and iconography, the paintings make visible a strikingly imaginative and deeply felt and immersive world. Atul has taught at the Slade, the University of Greenwich, the Royal Drawing School, the University of the Arts London and Heatherleys.

Spring: The days lengthen to celebrate the exuberance of life.
This is one of the Four Seasons of Landscape Painting that we are hosting in 2027. Each three-day workshop combines painting outdoors with individual tuition and time to develop your work at Cranmer Studio. How will you interpret the Spring landscapes of North Norfolk?
Attend one workshop for an intensive experience, or attend several to build a series of paintings.
Working from direct observation, the course will help you develop and understand the process of making paintings outside and will cover key concepts and ideas including light, contrast, colour mixing, colour relationships, composition, touch and working with oil paint.
Slide talks and discussions at Cranmer Studio each day will help provide context for your work in the landscape.
All levels of experience are welcome.

Booking
One "season" is a three day course. A 12% discount applies if you book more than one season.
Non Residential
includes freshly prepared lunch by our chef
£420 per person per season (£739 for 2 seasons, £1,109 for 3, £1,478 for 4)
Residential
breakfast, lunch and supper. Starting with supper the night before, ending with breakfast the day after the course
four nights' accommodation, towels and linen are provided
£1,120 per person per season for sole occupancy of a room (£1,971 for 2 seasons, £2,957 for 3, £3,942 for 4).
If you bring a friend to Cranmer Studio who has not attended one of our courses before, you’ll both receive a discount. Lower rates are also available for guests sharing a room, including partners who are not participating in the workshop. Discount terms and conditions are available on request.

Please book your place. We will confirm availability and ask you to pay the deposit. The balance is due 30 days before the workshop.

Cancellations and Refunds
Cancel more than 30 days before the workshop: refund of payments (we retain the deposit).
Cancel 30 days or fewer before the workshop: no refunds.
You may request to transfer your booking to another person or a future workshop up to 7 days before the start date (subject to availability and approval).
No-shows: the full fee is retained.
If we cancel the workshop: you will receive a full refund including the deposit, but we are not liable for your travel or third party accommodation costs.

Cranmer Studio does not sell alcohol. Guests are welcome to bring a small amount of wine or beer to enjoy with dinner if you wish.

You may arrange for delivery of your materials in advance of your stay. Alternatively, we have a limited supply of materials for sale.
Hospitality & Accommodation
Our chef prepares a light lunch for all guests, while residential guests also enjoy a self-serve breakfast and a two-course set menu dinner. Guests eat together around a shared table. We are happy to discuss food preferences and dietary requirements in advance.
Accommodation includes four king size bedrooms located on the first floor of the wing of Cranmer Hall. Two ensuite bedrooms and two further bedrooms that share a bathroom.
Cranmer Hall is an 18th-century listed building with uneven thresholds, and staircases. All bedrooms are on the first floor. Ground-level accommodation may be available nearby by arrangement, and transport can be provided. Please describe any access requirements when you register and we will be glad to explore what arrangements may be possible.
