Avenue of Trees leading to Cranmer Hall

The workshop will be hosted at Cranmer Studio. Our location is far enough away to break with the familiarity of the status quo and encourage reflection. North Norfolk, on the east coast of England, is famous for its expansive skyline. Cranmer is a three-hour drive from London, or a 90-minute train journey and 40 minutes by car from the station.

Your tutor - Atul Vohora

Born in East Africa, Atul Vohora currently lives and works in London. His paintings are layered, braiding together strands of memory, culture and lived experience into a body of work that has a powerful immediacy. Drawing in its most direct form, continues to be central to his practice. The work is charged with a sense of discovery and wonder, a luminous clarity that is powerfully rooted in the act of looking.

This is a dynamic Drawing course based on direct observation of the human figure.

The course is designed to help develop your understanding, through looking, of the human figure and to enrich your personal visual language through an engagement with key drawing concepts. The course includes a variety of long and short poses each day and we will use a range of materials and approaches. Slide talks each day will help provide context for your work in the studio.

You will learn about;

  • Mark and line

  • Shape and form

  • Building and understanding space

  • Composition

  • Light and contrast

  • Rhythm and movement

  • The human body

  • Drawing materials

All levels of experience are welcome.
