Location

Edward de Bono wrote many of his books on Lateral Thinking at Cranmer. This workshop returns the methods to the place where much of the work was developed: a quiet Georgian house in North Norfolk, with space to think, walk, write, draw, and test ideas away from familiar routines. North Norfolk, on the east coast of England, is famous for its expansive skyline. Cranmer is a three-hour drive from London, or a 90-minute train journey and 40 minutes by car from the station.
The course

Your tutor - Caspar de Bono
Caspar de Bono is Edward de Bono’s eldest son and grew up with Lateral Thinking as part of everyday conversation at Cranmer. Edward de Bono originated the term “Lateral Thinking” and wrote more than 60 books on thinking as a skill.
Caspar studied psychology at Oxford University and fine art at Heatherleys. He teaches Lateral Thinking and uses the methods in his own creative practice. His approach is practical, structured, and personal: the aim is not simply to learn the theory, but to use the tools on something that matters to you.
Learn about the skill of Lateral Thinking and apply it to something important to you
Lateral Thinking is for getting unstuck. The workshop is open to anyone who is seeking a new perspective. The mornings will be spent learning about Edward de Bono's ideas and methods. In the afternoons you will have the time and space to apply the methods to a subject or topic that is important to you. We have a large shared studio for artistic work and many quiet spaces. Individual guidance will be available.
What you will leave with;
A set of techniques
New ideas or directions
Greater confidence in treating creativity as a skill
Open to anyone seeking to get unstuck

Who this workshop is for

This workshop is for anyone seeking new ideas, not just those working in a creative field. You might be an artist, writer, musician, designer or someone facing a situation that needs a different kind of thinking.
You will get most from the workshop if you arrive with a real topic, project or issue you would like to explore and develop. If you wish to bring any creative materials with you, or you have a specific set up required, then please say so in the requirements field on the booking form.
We encourage a mix of people from different disciplines, with different interests, as one of the Lateral Thinking techniques that we will use is seeking new concepts in seemingly unrelated fields and then using that as a stepping stone to new possibilities.
