Location

The workshop will be hosted at Cranmer Studio, where Dr Edward de Bono wrote many of his books on Lateral Thinking. Our location is far enough away to break with the familiarity of the status quo. North Norfolk, on the east coast of England, is famous for its expansive skyline. Cranmer is a three-hour drive from London, or a 90-minute train journey and 40 minutes by car from the station.
The course

Your tutor - Caspar de Bono
Cranmer Studio was the former home of the author Edward de Bono, he originated the phrase "Lateral Thinking" and wrote over 60 books on thinking as a skill. Caspar is his eldest son and learned about Lateral Thinking across the breakfast, lunch and dinner table. Caspar also studied psychology at Oxford University and fine art at Heatherleys. He teaches Lateral Thinking and applies the methods in his own work. Thinking and creativity are skills that we can practice and improve. Lateral Thinking is a deliberate and structured creative process designed to help us out of thinking ruts.
Learn about the skill of Lateral Thinking and apply it to your practice.
Lateral Thinking is for getting unstuck. The workshop is open to any creative discipline - anyone who is seeking a new perspective. The mornings will be spent learning about Edward de Bono's ideas and methods. In the afternoons you will have the time and space to apply the methods to your practice in a large shared studio or quiet space. Individual guidance will be available.
You will learn;
How our minds reuse patterns
Lateral Thinking techniques to change patterns
The role of concepts
Provocation and movement
How to apply the methods
Open to anyone seeking to get unstuck

Who this workshop is for

This workshop is for anyone working in a creative field. Artist, composer, author, film director, architect, fashion designer, choreographer, photographer, game maker, playwright, screenwriter, interior or industrial designer, illustrator, curator, animator...
We encourage a mix of different disciplines as one of the Lateral Thinking techniques that we will use is seeking new concepts in seemingly unrelated fields and then using that as a stepping stone to new possibilities.
Accommodation

We have limited onsite accommodation so please book early to secure your place. We offer sole occupancy and rooms for two creatives to share.
